Insurance Education That Comes From Inside the System

I spent more than two decades working in emergency medicine, Medicare billing, and insurance compliance before I became an insurance navigator. When I teach, I'm not reading from a carrier's slide deck — I'm drawing on what I've seen firsthand: the billing errors, the denied claims, the coverage gaps that caught patients completely off guard.

Whether you're a financial advisor looking to better serve clients approaching Medicare eligibility, an HR team helping employees navigate benefit transitions, or a community organization that wants to give your audience something genuinely useful — I offer professional education sessions built around real questions, not marketing material.

Who These Sessions Are Built For

Financial Advisors and Wealth Managers
Clients approaching retirement often arrive with Medicare questions their financial advisor isn't positioned to answer. I partner with local financial planning firms to fill that gap — offering client education sessions that complement retirement income planning without stepping on it.

HR Professionals and Employee Benefits Teams
Employees transitioning off employer coverage — whether through early retirement, COBRA expiration, or a reduction in hours — face a confusing decision window. I can present to your team or HR staff to help them guide employees through their options with confidence.

Community Organizations and Nonprofits
Libraries, senior centers, faith communities, and civic groups often want to offer their audiences something genuinely useful. I bring straightforward, unbiased education — no sales pitch, no carrier agenda — just real information people can act on.

Legal and Healthcare Professionals
Attorneys, social workers, and care coordinators frequently encounter clients whose insurance situations are tangled or misunderstood. A session tailored to your team can sharpen how you identify coverage gaps and direct clients toward the right resources.

What a Session Can Cover

Topics are tailored to your audience. Common areas include:

  • Medicare eligibility timelines, enrollment windows, and late-enrollment penalties
  • How Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Part D plans differ — and how to help someone choose
  • Marketplace health insurance through Pennie, including subsidy eligibility and special enrollment periods
  • What to do when a claim is denied or a bill doesn't look right
  • Long-term care planning and what Medicare does — and doesn't — cover
  • Social Security disability basics and the application process
  • Insurance literacy for self-employed individuals and early retirees

Sessions can be structured as a presentation with Q&A, a workshop with case examples, or an open-format Q&A depending on what works best for your group.

Why My Background Changes What You Get

Most insurance education comes from carriers who have something to sell or generalists who learned the system from the outside. My background is different.

I'm a Registered Nurse with more than 20 years in healthcare — including direct experience in ER and trauma settings, Medicare billing, and insurance regulation. I've sat with patients trying to understand an EOB they couldn't parse. I've worked through appeals. I've seen what happens when someone enrolls in the wrong plan because no one explained the tradeoffs clearly.

That experience shapes how I teach. I explain the system the way a clinician explains a diagnosis: plainly, completely, and with attention to what the person in front of me actually needs to understand.

Our Process

Wendy sits down with clients in person — no call centers, no high-pressure pitches — and starts with a thorough review of the situation. Whether it is a denied claim, a confusing medical bill, a long-term care decision, or a Social Security disability application, she brings 20 years of clinical and insurance experience to every engagement.

Consulting services are fee-based and fully independent — no insurance carrier is on the other side of the table. Before any work begins, Wendy conducts a phone intake to understand the situation and confirm she can genuinely help. If the situation falls outside the scope of this practice, she will say so and point toward the right resource.

Frequently Asked Questions About Professional Education Sessions

  • Do you charge for professional education sessions?

It depends on the format and context. Community and library sessions are free and open to the public. For corporate or organizational presentations, I'm happy to discuss what makes sense for your group. Reach out and we'll find an arrangement that works.

  • How long are your sessions, and can they be customized?

Sessions typically run 45 to 90 minutes, including time for questions. I customize every session to the audience — what I cover for a room of financial advisors looks different from what I cover for a senior center or an HR team. If you have a specific focus in mind, tell me when you reach out and I'll build around it.

  • Can you present virtually, or only in person?

Both. I'm based in Salunga and serve Lancaster County and surrounding areas in person, but I can present virtually for organizations outside the immediate area or for teams that prefer a remote format.

  • Do you accept referrals from the professionals who attend your sessions?

Yes, and that's often how these partnerships develop naturally. My practice is built on referrals and relationships — not cold calling or lead buying. If your clients or employees leave a session with questions about their own coverage, I'm glad to follow up with them individually.

  • What makes your sessions different from what a carrier or broker typically offers?

I'm not presenting on behalf of any single carrier, and I don't have a quota to hit. My clinical background means I approach insurance the way I approached patient care — by understanding the full picture before making a recommendation. That independence is what makes the education credible.
